Patrimonio Game Jam 2026 has surpassed 690 registrations. The figure appeared during the event day covered by Punto Gamer and confirms the growth of an initiative that connects game development with Peruvian cultural heritage. This second edition is not limited to one city: the call is nationwide, bringing together people from different parts of Peru while using Lima, Arequipa and Cusco as in-person hubs.
The Ministry of Culture and the Peruvian Association of Video Game Companies (CVA Perú) are coordinating this second edition, which runs from September 18 to 28. The physical hubs help teams form, share knowledge and network, while the online components extend participation beyond those who can travel to one of those locations.

Than 690 Registrations From Across Peru
The registration story has two figures that should be kept separate. CVA initially reported more than 550 registrations as a historic record for the initiative. During the day documented by Punto Gamer, an event screen updated the number with the message: “WE ARE NOW MORE THAN 690 REGISTERED! WE BROKE THE RECORD!” The second figure comes from that visible event update, not from the initial public announcement.
The difference between a nationwide call and its physical hubs also matters. Lima, Arequipa and Cusco host in-person activities, team formation and meetings, but they are not a closed list of where participants come from. Remote work and shared resources allow the event to include people from other parts of the country.
Teams are working from Peruvian cultural heritage and the collections of museums administered by the state. The Ministry of Culture provides talks, repositories and validated information resources so research does not rely only on scattered references. The goal is not to turn a collection into an interactive catalog, but to translate it into an experience that players can explore, understand and remember.
That Games and Culture Cannot Work Together”
Marco Arellano of CVA Perú summarized one of the initiative's most interesting goals during the testimony recorded by Punto Gamer: “To challenge and dismantle the idea that video games and culture cannot work hand in hand.” The statement is precisely a challenge to that separation. Patrimonio Game Jam seeks to demonstrate through concrete projects that games can engage with culture, museums and heritage, turning them into mechanics, systems, stories and interactive experiences.
That approach changes the question. Instead of asking how to place a Peruvian image on top of an already defined game, teams can ask what mechanic, interaction, system or narrative structure can grow from a practice, object, story or collection. Heritage stops being only a visual skin and can become the logic that organizes the world, objectives and player experience.
Las voces de quienes participanThe Voices of the Participants
During our coverage, participants talked about discovering museums as possible starting points for game development, imagining cultural projects with commercial potential and taking part in a Game Jam for the first time. Their reactions show that the event is not only about gathering developers around a prompt; it also opens a door for people who may not have considered heritage as creative material to bring it into their process.

The first edition, held in 2025, brought together more than 400 participants nationwide and ended with 52 games published on itch.io. The second edition builds on that precedent with a higher registration figure and a question that remains relevant: what can happen when museums, heritage and game creation stop being treated as separate worlds.
